With Love, Cera
Since I was eight years old, I have collected every birthday card that I have ever received. I find myself looking back nostalgically, searching for the familiar feeling of past relationships. I found myself thinking: Where did all those people end up, and if I could write back what would I even say?
Using the familiar medium of greeting cards, With Love, Cera delves into the nuances of interpersonal confrontation based on my upbringing and childhood experiences. Through a collection of 21 distinct cards, I construct a narrative that traces the evolution of relationships and connections made during my journey to adulthood. From the complexities of familial bonds to the hardships of friendships, my work underscores the profoundness of human connection. Furthermore, it explores themes of loss and farewells to loved ones.
Encased within an envelope-inspired blizzard binding and cardstock hardcover, the meticulously arranged cards mimic the intimate sensation of leafing through a treasured photo album. Ultimately, my thesis serves as a tribute to every person who has left a permanent mark on my life, affirming my belief in the transformative power of shared experiences and learning to grow through hardships. I want to look back on With Love, Cera and feel that similar melancholy feeling when I flip through my old cards; I still wonder what I would say if I could write back.
